Social Distancing Garden Visiting
Stardate 20200321
I find myself sitting next to my companionable Sammy on the sofa, both content after breakfast. The Sun shines, the east wind blows – but no signs or sounds of human life, no vapour trails in the sky. This is the first day of a new life – a life dictated by being two metres away from other humans, no travelling, no pubs, nowhere to go for coffee and croissants. Being retired, Penny and I have to some extent already been living this kind of life – Penny in the garden, me studying or taking Sammy out.
I cannot imagine how difficult this must be for those with no garden and living with young children with no school to go to. We love to share our garden and hope to continue to do so in one form or another. Maybe people could visit, bring their own flask of tea, and enjoy the garden as the weather improves, keeping the social distancing going of course. It might also be possible to walk up to the river if people don’t mind close proximity to cattle and horses. We are still thinking this out – would anyone be interested in this idea of garden visiting?
