Bells over the Water Meadows
Listening to the melodious bells ringing to the South from St Peter’s Church, Stockbridge – across the water meadows. No other sounds apart from the little birds, and the mewing of a Kestrel. I sit for a while taking in the quiet midwinter beauty, the dull light, the chill breeze and a white Sammy wandering not far away in the dull green grass. When the wind is from the North, not so often, I delight in the bells of St Mary’s, Longstock. These gentle rhythms, so characteristic of the English countryside, still the mind – and give the same pleasure I find in listening to the music of horses going by, or when I am riding my magic grey mare, Sonadora
