The British Government is planning to give £55 to Family Doctors when they make a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease
The British Government is planning to give £55 to Family Doctors when they make a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease. This is not only disrespectful to the medical profession but to their patients also. As a both a patient and a doctor myself I find it demeaning that the medical profession is assumed to be motivated by money rather than good practice. This idea will also lead to distrust in the doctor patient relationship – do we really want to feel that our doctor is eying us up to see if he or she might make a quick buck? Dementia research is grossly underfunded – it would make more sense to pay the £55 to the Alzheimer’s Disease Society than into the pockets of some of the best paid people in the community.
